It's a legendary bar in "Scranton" that Meredith made most of her inappropriate decisions. Funny enough, the producers created Poor Richards themselves. The Steamtown Mall is a real mall in Scranton and is brought up often throughout the series. It's where Michael tried to be a better boss and took the ladies for Women's Appreciation Day while ironically buying them underwear from Victoria's Secret and it's where Dwight bought the crystal wizard from the shop who wouldn't let him in with beet-soaked hands.
In reality, the cast did not travel to Scranton for these shots of the mall. Fans will notice the fountain where Michael threw his change into, the food court, and the Victoria's Secret. The couple decided to get married in Niagra Falls in hopes that no one would want to travel there. However, everyone decided to go because Michael gave the office off Friday and Monday if they went.. The church in the show was a cute combination of red wood and stone, which was seen when Jim was playing soccer with some kids before he helped Pam with her torn veil.
In the episode 'Ultimatum,' Andy, Dwight, and Darryl admitted they were all lonely and wanted to meet women. Darryl convinced them to pick up women at the bookstore but when that didn't work out, they went to a neighboring skating rink to go rollerblading. The three men did not do a good job of meeting women but they did have a fun time rollerblading. It's still open and apparently still looks the same, according to Skateland's website. Not only did they get to leave the office and head to the beach for the day but they learned that Michael was leaving Scranton for a job at corporate, someone would be promoted within, and Pam was a badass when she walked on fire!
There was a lot to take in. In the show, the group looked like they were near a beautiful lake but it was actually filmed at a fake dam, Hansen Dam in San Fernando Valley. According to The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the s , the crew chose the dam because it was "the bleakest lake" they could find.
It would be a dream for many Office fans to show up at Schrute Farms and pick their own beets. BUT you will find the Scranton sign from the opening of the show , and that alone makes it worth a visit. There was no one around so we were able to act as ridiculous as we wanted without feeling too silly. In real-life Scranton, this classic Italian eatery offers a variety of salads, sandwiches, pastas and pizzas. We ate there and think Kevin was onto something. No hot garbage here! There is a little reminder in the very top of the tower — so look closely!
They have signed photos from the cast and a real Dwight bobblehead from Rainn Wilson himself. And the company gives out free posters to all fans of the show. Only if the original cast had some sort of epic reunion. Now that would be worth it. Kicking myself for driving past the Scranton exit last summer and not stopping!
Thanks for writing this awesome article and examples helped alot.. She watched it without him at first until he kept hearing the humor in it until we both restarted the show back to season 1 and enjoyed it several times over!
Too funny! My son has watched the whole series a couple of times, so I feel like a Dunderhead by contact high. Thanks for sharing!! That is nice information. I read your blog and appreciate you. And thanks for giving the nice information. Thanks for the post! I was in town to visit family in Wilkes-Barre and stopped by several of the sites since I had extra time.
The folks at Penn Paper said an a cappella group from Chicago stopped there the previous day and sang the Office theme song for the staff. It also allowed for shots to be framed so that both of their faces are visible. The show did take liberty to remove the partitions between desks, so that everyone could see each other. I love that the tower still features the Dunder Mifflin logo, even eight years after the show last aired! Keep your eyes open for this easy-to-miss mural off the highway.
If you have some time to spare, be sure to check it out. OK, OK. This is by no means close to Scranton, but I had to include it! And there you have it! In the yard was the real estate sign for the reality company I worked for at that time. They really went out if their way to make the show feel authentic. Like Liked by 1 person. I love all the little details that went into making the show feel like it really was filmed in Scranton. Like Like. I can email you a photo is you like.
