Buy at Sweetwater. This is one of the more affordable amps that you can get that will still give you a sound worth paying for. This is a smaller and lighter amp that you can rack and it will only take 1 rack space.
It has a great stainless steel look to it but I do not think that it is built as well as some other amps that I have had before or now. If you are a beginner and you are stepping If you are a beginner and you are stepping into some larger venues this will be a great amp to get you started. It is not powerful enough for a huge space but for a mid sized club it will work great. The best part about it is that it is affordable.
I had this amp back in and used it for about 6 months. It gave me a great sound during the time that I used it. The only concerns that I had with it was could it hold up for a long time. This amp is pretty heavy but it is not built to last you a long time. I do not regret my decision because this being one of the first amps that I had taught me a lot about amps and power. You typically buy a power amplifier because you need good clean sound reproduction and more power to enable you to play at much larger venues.
In my case, I needed a sound system that would adequately support my guitar, my bass, my keyboard synthesizer and could also handle vocals and double as studio monitor for my home recording studio. In essence, I was looking for a powerful pristine sound reproduction system.
I started out by selecting twin JBL JRX speaker cabinets and after reading over the amplifier requirements to drive those speakers, and researching the specifications of several power amplifiers and selected the QSC GX5 as the perfect match up for those speakers.
I could not I could not be happier with the clean, quiet, high quality sound reproduction I am receiving from this system and I now have adequate power to play almost anywhere I choose. The amazing thing for me was that I fully expected to pay a whole lot more for a system that would adequately support all those instruments and microphones and also sounds as good as this system does.
There was enough money left over in my budget that I was also able to add a channel mixer on the front end and now I can plug the entire band into this sound system and balance the sound perfectly and even record live off the mixer as we play.
Overall, very clean power, crystal clear and no clipping, toss anything at these amps you want and they handle it! The ratings are very accurate, watts per channel at 8ohms is just that more than enough to power my bands 4 speakers, from small venues to outsider we have plenty of power.
There built like tanks and can withstand heat In my opinion you will not find better "working mans" amp than this one, its worth every penny and then some! I also own a GX3 To power our monitors, its an amazing set up,. Incredible value!! I use 2 1 month, 17 acres 3 am 4 times a week and no problems. Casiment no heater. Sound identical to my old casiment rmx but much lighter and compact and work very well on 4 db tech subs 15 "and 4 tops 8" and 10 ". I'll buy one in September GX3 for small returns.
A close reading tests in the U. What I love best: compact - light - price - different connections - to silence a sound system - serious brand after sale What I like least: for the moment not much, except perhaps on large subs 18 "4 ohms?? I do not know I have not tried. But on 15" it's going very well. I used two since November on generators and no worries for as they walk to their first day. For how long have you been using it?
What is your opinion about the value for the price? I use this amp for 6 months. The advantages of this amp are: moderate weight, good protection and manufacturer of realistic features! Compared to the crown, the GX5 has better definition and does not lack punch! I realise they haven't included that feature but it shouldn't be hard to achieve by reversing the polarity of one balanced input and using the appropriate output connections.
Even on an amp with only unbalanced inputs it's a relatively simple mod with an opamp phase inverter. As long as the outputs are ground referenced it should be a simple matter on this amp. To bridge the outputs you need to have the same signal feeding both channels but with opposite polarities. Otherwise both outputs track the signal and there's no voltage difference between them to drive the load.
I wonder why they don't offer bridge mode. If you're lucky it's just to deter people from running it bridged into 4 ohms; there's also the possibility that it's already bridged, ie it's actually four power amps hard-wired in bridge mode.
Their site offers schematics of just about everything except this amp, unfortunately. I've asked on the QSC forum but no reply yet. Worth doing with Class D to avoid bus pumping. Tee hee, I said " bus pumping". The channels are not bridged, but the - side of each output is not connected directly to ground. Instead, the current monitoring circuitry is on that side, and so bridging the amp would bypass this protection.
